Job description

About the Company

Gauntlet specializes in quantitative research and optimization for decentralized finance. The company works on market risk, growth optimization, and economic safety for protocols that support a large share of DeFi spot trading, borrowing, and lending. It also develops institutional-grade vaults for DeFi, aiming to deliver risk-adjusted onchain yields at scale. As of November 2025, Gauntlet oversees more than $2B in vault TVL and optimizes risk and incentives across over $42 billion in customer TVL. The company is a Series B business with about 75 employees and operates remotely, with its home base in New York City.

Its mission is to help people adopt and understand the financial systems of the future. The team works with a trader’s discipline and a risk manager’s caution, emphasizing careful sizing, routine stress testing, and decisive unwinding. Gauntlet curates strategies across Morpho, Drift, Symbiotic, Aera, and other platforms, with a growing set of Prime, Core, and Frontier vaults.

Role Overview

Gauntlet is hiring an Accounting Lead to strengthen and scale its accounting function during a period of growth. This position carries significant ownership over core accounting workflows, accurate and timely reporting, and continuous operational improvement. The role partners closely with the Controller and also coordinates with the Onchain Accounting Lead on digital asset and other crypto-native accounting work.

As the team expands, the Accounting Lead will help build more scalable processes, reinforce controls, and review work completed by junior accounting staff. This position is a strong fit for someone with solid traditional accounting experience who is also interested in crypto, digital assets, and emerging financial technologies.

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

  • Lead the monthly close process and keep reporting deadlines on track.
  • Review and sign off on journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and prepaid items.
  • Make sure financial statements are complete and accurate.
  • Keep supporting schedules organized and ready for audit review.
  • Help with complex accounting analysis and technical accounting questions.
  • Work with the Accounting Lead on period-end digital asset accounting tasks.
  • Support accounting for on-chain activity, wallets, and crypto-related operations.

Revenue, Expenses & Accounting Operations

  • Oversee revenue accounting and the related recognition schedules.
  • Manage accounting for operating expenses and vendor transactions.
  • Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and employee expense processes.
  • Partner with the Controller on complex accounting transactions.
  • Maintain proper documentation, SOPs, and internal accounting controls.
  • Help keep digital asset accounting records and schedules up to date and reconciled.
  • Support crypto-related accounting analysis and reporting with the Accounting Lead.

Audit, Tax & Compliance

  • Act as a key accounting point of contact for external auditors.
  • Prepare and review audit workpapers and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate compliance filings with outside tax providers.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting and financial reporting obligations.

Process Improvement & Controls

  • Maintain and improve accounting policies and procedures.
  • Look for ways to automate work and streamline processes.
  • Improve internal controls and documentation standards.
  • Help ensure accounting operations can scale with company growth.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Provide day-to-day support to junior accounting team members.
  • Review staff work and ensure it meets quality expectations.
  • Work cross-functionally with Operations, Legal, People, and leadership teams.
  • Coordinate traditional and crypto-native accounting work with the Accounting Lead.
  • Contribute to best practices across the accounting function.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate brings at least 4 years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of key parts of the month-end close process. Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting is required, along with experience reviewing reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules. You should also understand revenue recognition and accrual accounting well, and have a track record of improving processes and internal controls.

Strong proficiency with Google Suite, Excel or Google Sheets, and accounting ERP systems is important, with Xero preferred. The role also calls for excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, close attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-moving environment. Interest in supporting crypto-native accounting and digital asset accounting is expected.

Bonus Qualifications

Additional value will come from experience in crypto, digital assets, blockchain, or fintech environments, as well as startup experience. A CPA, or active progress toward one, is also a plus. Familiarity with Ramp and modern accounting systems, plus prior experience mentoring or leading accounting staff, would be beneficial.

Benefits & Perks

  • Remote-first setup with the ability to work from anywhere in the US and Canada.
  • Periodic in-person company retreats and cross-country office visits.
  • Fully paid medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees.
  • $1,000 work-from-home stipend.
  • Monthly reimbursement for home internet, phone, and cellular data.
  • Unlimited vacation policy.
  • 100% paid parental leave for 12 weeks.
  • Fertility benefits.
  • Opportunity for incentive compensation.

Eligibility

Hiring is limited to candidates who can work in the contiguous United States and Canada. If you need an accommodation, it should be mentioned in your application.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $120,000 to $140,000, with additional on-target earnings potential by level and equity in the company. Compensation is determined based on qualifications, experience, skill set, and internal equity considerations.
