Role overview
SouthRoads is a respected Southland business that contributes to the delivery and upkeep of key infrastructure across the region. As the company expands, it is introducing a new accounting opportunity for a commercially minded professional who wants to make a tangible impact.
This position goes well beyond standard accounting tasks. You will work closely with contract managers, operational leaders, and the finance team to understand the drivers behind performance, profitability, and day-to-day results. The role also provides exposure to the aggregate side of the business and the operational aspects of the industry, so previous experience in this specific area is not required.

Core responsibilities
- Assist with aggregate costing, performance tracking, and monitoring stock movement
- Provide job and contract costing analysis that helps improve profitability
- Work with operational managers to review costs and business performance
- Support reporting, forecasting, process enhancement, and financial planning activities
What you will bring
- Between 3 and 5 years of prior experience in accounting or finance, ideally gained in a commercial, contracting, construction, or similar setting
- Solid Excel capability and confidence using financial systems
- Genuine interest in costing, business performance, and operational decision-making
- A proactive mindset with the curiosity to investigate issues and develop practical solutions
- Strong collaborative skills and an appreciation for shared learning and continuous improvement
