Job description

About the Role

Target is hiring a 3D Designer to create high-impact, design-led 3D visuals that help shape product concepts and support decisions throughout the product development process. In this role, you will work as a creative partner to Design, Product Development, and Brand teams, using 3D tools and AI-enabled workflows to explore ideas, refine directions, and produce polished visual outputs. The position also contributes to expanding how design teams use 3D and generative AI as core tools for creative work.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $73,000 to $132,000 per year. Actual pay is determined by several factors, including labor market conditions, and in some cases education, experience, and certifications. Target also provides eligible team members and their dependents with a broad benefits package that may include medical, vision, dental, life insurance, 401(k), employee discount, short-term disability, long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid national holidays, and paid vacation. Additional details on benefits are available through Target's careers benefits information.

What You’ll Do

  • Create detailed 3D assets and visual presentations by turning sketches, 2D concepts, and design direction into compelling product storytelling with strong modeling, texturing, lighting, rendering, and composition.
  • Use generative AI and prompt-based methods to quickly test, refine, and communicate ideas around products, materials, color options, and styling.
  • Blend AI-generated outputs with 3D workflows to produce presentation-ready visuals that speed up concept development and decision-making.
  • Work closely with product designers to shape ideas through rapid visualization and prototyping while reducing dependence on physical samples.
  • Partner with technical artists, merchandising, marketing, digital teams, and external collaborators to create scalable, optimized, brand-aligned outputs.
  • Ensure every deliverable matches Target brand standards, category-specific design language, and quality expectations across channels.
  • Contribute to innovation by adopting new trends, tools, and workflows in 3D visualization and AI-assisted design.
  • Share knowledge, document best practices, and help broaden adoption of 3D and generative AI workflows across Design and Product Development teams.

What You Need

  • A four-year degree in Design, 3D Design, CGI, Digital Media, Product Design, Industrial Design, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience in 3D design, visualization, CGI, digital product creation, creative technology, or a similar area.
  • Hands-on proficiency with 3D design, visualization, and rendering software such as SolidWorks, Rhino, 3ds Max, Maya, Blender, Substance Suite, Unreal Engine, KeyShot, CLO, Browzwear, or similar tools.
  • Experience using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly, Vizcom, Runway, or comparable platforms for ideation and design exploration.
  • Strong understanding of modeling, materials, lighting, rendering, scene setup, scale, proportion, and visual storytelling.
  • Knowledge of real-time, interactive, digital, and production environments, including optimization and production-ready asset development.
  • Strong collaboration skills with designers, technical partners, merchants, marketers, and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to present ideas clearly, influence decisions, and explain new workflows and creative approaches.
  • Self-driven mindset with ownership, accountability, and follow-through from concept to delivery.
  • Ability to translate business goals into original, efficient creative solutions.
  • Curiosity for design trends, emerging technology, and AI-enabled creativity, along with a commitment to continuous learning.
