About the Studio
The Monument is a compact but ambitious design and animation studio located in New York, NY. Its work spans branding, motion graphics, and broadcast design.
Role Summary
The team is looking for a creative, highly motivated motion designer with strong typography sensibilities to join on a freelance basis. The role reports to the Creative Director and involves producing 2D and, where relevant, 3D motion content for television, web, mobile, and other media.
Advanced After Effects expertise is essential, and experience with 3D tools is considered an advantage. The studio is also interested in building long-term working relationships with animators from different backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, refine, and deliver 2D animation assets for formats such as television, web, and mobile.
- Cut and edit source footage as needed for motion projects.
- Investigate approaches and evaluate design methods to produce distinctive 2D motion work.
- Support the creation of storyboards and style frames.
- Keep project files and graphic assets organized and up to date.
- Use consistent versioning and file-naming practices.
- Stay effective in a fast-moving, high-output production environment.
- Move smoothly across multiple assignments when priorities change.
Required Qualifications
- Strong grasp of motion principles and composition.
- Hands-on strength in 2D animation using After Effects.
- Advanced working knowledge of After Effects and related 2D production workflows.
- Experience with Cinema 4D is beneficial, though not mandatory.
- Knowledge of 3DS Max is a bonus, but not required.
- Exposure to Houdini is helpful, but optional.
- Genuine interest in visual storytelling and continuous skill development.
Application Notes
Applicants should share work samples, the type of work they want to take on, their availability, their rate, and a favorite piece of animation. Candidates without a portfolio or reel will not be reviewed. The team also asks for the earliest date the applicant can start. Immediate availability is preferred.
Employment Preferences
The studio accepts permanent full-time, freelance, contract, and internship interest through the application form, but the opening described here is for a full-time onsite position in New York, NY.
Additional Information
The application form also requests the applicant’s name, email, phone number, portfolio URL, Instagram, Behance, LinkedIn, software proficiencies, current physical location, and where they heard about the role. An optional field is provided for any other information the candidate would like to share.
