Technical Support Engineer (Reliability & Rotating Equipment)

About the Role

A client in Dubai is hiring a Technical Support Engineer focused on reliability and rotating equipment for a 12-month contract. The position is centered on improving plant asset performance by analyzing equipment failures, monitoring key reliability metrics, and helping to resolve recurring problems through corrective action.

Reliability and Performance Monitoring

• Examine corrective and breakdown work orders to spot repeated failures and the main failure patterns.
• Monitor reliability indicators such as MTBF, MTTR, and MTTF for critical equipment.
• Prepare reliability-related reports and identify opportunities to improve asset performance.
• Track problematic assets, commonly referred to as “bad actors,” and follow up on corrective actions until closure.

Root Cause Analysis

• Investigate major and recurring equipment failures using root cause analysis methods.
• Work with different teams to determine why failures occurred.
• Make sure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and completed.

Rotating Equipment Support

• Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance of pumps, compressors, turbines, and fans.
• Carry out vibration monitoring and analysis to support equipment health assessment.
• Help with laser alignment tasks and refurbishment of mechanical seals.

Troubleshooting and Overhaul Activities

• Diagnose operating issues affecting rotating equipment.
• Support shutdown, overhaul, and inspection work.
• Inspect bearings and analyze failures related to mechanical seals.

Spare Parts and Asset Control

• Set and improve spare parts min/max inventory levels based on consumption and supplier lead times.
• Review equipment BOMs and maintain lists of critical spares.
• Identify excess, missing, or outdated inventory items.
• Read engineering drawings to match spare parts with the correct equipment.

Engineering Documentation

The role requires working with and interpreting technical drawings and documentation, including P&IDs, PFDs, general arrangement drawings, mechanical seal drawings, cross-sectional drawings, and isometric drawings.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 5 years of experience in reliability and maintenance of rotating equipment.
• Background in oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industry is preferred.
• Certification such as CMRP or CRE will be considered an advantage.
• Practical knowledge of reliability engineering and failure analysis.
• Hands-on experience with vibration analysis and condition monitoring.
• Strong troubleshooting ability.
• Understanding of rotating equipment maintenance practices.
