About the Role
This position is part of the Trading capability group and sits within the Trading job family. The role is centered on physical trading activity that helps keep the ExxonMobil supply system balanced. Working from signals provided by Optimizers, the trader focuses on capturing the most valuable opportunities available across the supply chain. The job is limited to balancing trades in the physical supply system. While the role helps identify hedging needs, it does not include authority to execute derivative trades.
What You’ll Do
You will work with Optimizers to carry out commercial plans that maintain system balance while improving value through the selection of the best available alternatives. The role involves buying and selling short-term volumes of crude oil, natural gas, refined products, biofuels, environmental or emissions credits, power, and related services in line with optimization guidance.
You will also stay current on market conditions, trading methods, regulatory requirements, and standard contracting practices used in the industry. A key part of the role is building and maintaining strong relationships with market counterparties so trades can be executed efficiently and on time.
In addition, you will make sure all trading activity follows ExxonMobil policies, internal functional standards, and relevant external regulations. You will manage transactions and contracts throughout the supply cycle and ensure records are accurately maintained in the appropriate systems. The role also contributes to optimization strategy discussions by sharing market intelligence and helping inform value-chain decisions. Where physical trades create hedging needs, you will identify those requirements and pass them to the proper team for follow-up.
