Role summary

Dar is looking for a Sustainability Engineer with 1 to 3 years of relevant experience to contribute to sustainability consulting work on projects in Saudi Arabia. In this role, you will collaborate with architects, engineers, urban planners, landscape architects, and other stakeholders to support sustainability integration, certification compliance, and environmental performance evaluations for buildings and masterplans.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to sustainability consulting assignments for building and masterplan developments.
• Help shape and execute project sustainability approaches.
• Support documentation and submissions for LEED, Mostadam, WELL, and other sustainability rating systems.
• Carry out sustainability reviews during planning, design, and construction phases.
• Examine design outputs against sustainability goals and project requirements.
• Assist with environmental performance analysis and sustainability studies.
• Prepare sustainability reports, technical notes, presentation materials, and client-facing deliverables.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams to embed sustainability criteria throughout the project lifecycle.
• Take part in sustainability workshops, design review sessions, and client discussions.
• Track new sustainability rules, technologies, and good practices relevant to Saudi Arabia.

Required qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, Building Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a similar field.
• Between 1 and 3 years of professional experience in sustainability consulting, green building certification, environmental design, or sustainable development.
• Working knowledge of sustainable building and community design concepts.
• Strong ability in analysis, communication, and report writing.
• Comfort working in cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.

Preferred expertise

The following knowledge areas and tools would be beneficial:

• Exposure to LEED, Mostadam, WELL, BREEAM, SITES, Envision, or similar certification programs.
• Understanding of Saudi sustainability standards and regulatory requirements.
• High-level knowledge of sustainability design for buildings and masterplans.
• Experience with climate-responsive and passive design approaches.
• Awareness of urban heat island reduction methods.
• Knowledge of sustainable mobility and active transportation planning.
• Familiarity with sustainable materials and circular economy concepts.
• Ability to support energy simulation and building performance assessments.
• Experience with water balance and water efficiency calculations.
• Knowledge of carbon footprint and embodied carbon assessments.
• Ability to assist with daylight and visual comfort analysis.
• Exposure to shading analysis and solar exposure studies.
• Understanding of UTCI and outdoor thermal comfort assessments.
• Familiarity with renewable energy feasibility reviews.
• Knowledge of life-cycle assessment (LCA).
• Awareness of climate resilience and environmental impact studies.
• Experience with one or more digital tools such as IES VE, CAD, Revit, Rhino, Grasshopper, Ladybug Tools, EnergyPlus, or One Click LCA.
• Credentials such as Mostadam AP, LEED Green Associate, LEED AP BD+C, LEED AP ND, LEED AP O+M, or WELL AP are an advantage.
