Role Overview
BNP Associates is hiring a Senior Project Engineer/Manager for its Auckland, New Zealand office. In this role, you will act as the central point of contact between project stakeholders, contractors, and BNP, and serve as a subject matter expert across the full project lifecycle.
The position combines office and field work and is supervised by the Regional Director and other senior leaders, with close collaboration across BNP’s international engineering teams. Along with delivering projects, you will help expand BNP’s presence across Oceania by supporting business development, meeting prospective clients, and contributing to the company’s position as a leading baggage handling and cargo consultant in the region. You will also help guide and develop junior colleagues as the local team grows.
BNP’s teams are intentionally small and collaborative, creating an environment where work stays varied, technical, and challenging.
Responsibilities
- Conduct site visits, field surveys, equipment testing, and construction management activities.
- Evaluate project locations for practicality and operational needs.
- Create and review CAD drawings, engineering designs, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Work closely with architects, designers, engineers, and trades across multidisciplinary teams.
- Oversee budgets, schedules, and project logistics, including RFI handling and punch-list closure.
- Prepare progress updates, cost estimates, and technical analyses.
- Carry out and review system simulations and confirm alignment with project requirements.
- Provide technical support to BNP offices on baggage handling controls, system installation, electrical design, and new developments in airport ground handling and baggage operations.
- Coach and support junior and new team members.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering, aviation management, airport planning, or a closely related field.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in a senior project engineering/management role or similar technical position.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple stakeholders from start to finish.
- Strong client-facing and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the preparation of technical reports and project documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment and also work independently when needed.
- Strong problem-solving ability and the capacity to handle several projects at once.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly within New Zealand and Australia.
- Unrestricted right to work in New Zealand at the time of application, with no employer sponsorship available.
- Advanced degree or equivalent field experience is preferred.
- PMP certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- EIT or PE certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Prior exposure to baggage handling systems, automated material handling, or airport operations is an advantage.
- Background in ground handling, logistics, or warehousing is an advantage.
- Experience using Revit or AutoCAD for design work is an advantage.
- Existing professional connections in the aviation, airport, or logistics sector in Oceania is an advantage.
- Projects may require background checks and may also involve drug screening.
- The role is primarily site-based at Auckland Airport, with only limited remote work available.
- Standard working time is 40 hours per week, with occasional extra hours required to meet deadlines.
