Role overview

Moonshot is hiring a Senior Manager to oversee the delivery and expansion of its Canada-focused program portfolio. This position leads a set of online violence prevention and public safety initiatives delivered with government bodies, community groups, technology firms, and other partners across Canada.

The role combines strategic oversight, day-to-day operations, people leadership, and external engagement. It also acts as the Canada-based point of contact for program operations and stakeholder coordination, helping strengthen Moonshot’s presence in Canada while contributing to wider organizational and regional goals.

The successful candidate will lead and support Canada-based team members, helping build a collaborative, accountable, and mission-focused working environment. Depending on organizational priorities, the role may also contribute to violence prevention work in Australia and New Zealand.

Moonshot’s offices are in Toronto, and the company offers flexible hybrid and remote working arrangements. Applications are welcome from candidates across Canada, but the role requires working mainly within Eastern Time Zone hours.

Program and portfolio leadership

  • Act as the operational lead for the Canada portfolio, managing complex, multi-year public safety and online violence prevention programs.
  • Set direction and oversee delivery across multiple projects so that work stays high quality, client needs are met, and activities align with organizational goals.
  • Manage planning, resourcing, budgeting, forecasting, risk handling, and delivery schedules across the portfolio.
  • Make prioritization and operational decisions when program demands and organizational goals compete.
  • Ensure delivery meets contractual, legal, ethical, and internal compliance standards.
  • Maintain strong quality control, disciplined operations, and polished client-facing outputs.

Client and stakeholder engagement

  • Serve as the main relationship lead for Canadian clients, funders, partners, and other external stakeholders.
  • Develop and sustain trusted connections with government agencies, public health organizations, NGOs, technology companies, law enforcement partners, and community groups.
  • Represent Moonshot in meetings, briefings, conferences, and sector-facing engagement opportunities.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and partners to support smooth implementation and collaboration across programs.

Team leadership and management

  • Directly lead, coach, and manage staff based in Canada.
  • Build a team culture that is collaborative, accountable, mission-driven, and focused on continuous improvement.
  • Support workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, performance management, and professional development for the Canada team.
  • Coordinate closely with internal teams supporting Canada programs, including operations, finance, design, research, knowledge exchange, and technical functions.

Business development and growth

  • Help expand Moonshot’s work in Canada by identifying partnership, funding, and strategic growth opportunities.
  • Contribute to proposals, renewals, partnership building, and technical scoping for new work.
  • Support external communications and thought leadership related to Canada programs and violence prevention.

Risk, compliance, and organizational stewardship

  • Recognize, manage, and escalate operational, reputational, delivery, and partnership risks when needed.
  • Ensure adherence to government contracting rules, ethics duties, data protection requirements, and audit processes.
  • Keep internal records and operating systems organized to support strong program management and accountability.
  • Contribute to learning, process improvement, and cross-region collaboration, including support for Australia and New Zealand initiatives when needed.

Additional information

Moonshot is committed to centering marginalized communities in its work, including people of color, Indigenous people, people from varied socioeconomic backgrounds, Disabled people, and LGBTQIA+ people. The organization encourages applications from individuals with these identities and from other underrepresented communities. All qualified applicants will be considered equally, without discrimination based on race, creed, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, or marital status. Moonshot believes that a diverse workforce strengthens its ability to understand violent extremism and online harms and improve its work in countering them.

Working expectations

This position may require travel to represent the organization. In rare situations, you may also need to work outside normal hours to respond to client-related incidents. Candidates must be willing to complete any security clearance steps required by clients. Eligibility to work in Canada will be verified.

Requirements

Experience in business development, partnerships, grant funding, or government procurement is important, along with relevant background in homeland security, public safety, countering violent extremism, targeted violence, or other online harms.

Moonshot also values proven people management ability, external representation experience, and a strong commitment to mission-driven work.
