About the Role
Yazio is hiring a Senior Controller to take end-to-end responsibility for the controlling function as the company continues to grow. In this position, you will bring clarity, discipline and depth to monthly closing, accounting operations and internal controls, helping define the standard for how controlling is run across the business. With a team of about 150 people, your decisions on close structure and accounting design will have a lasting impact on Finance for years to come.
You will be accountable for building and improving the core accounting and controlling processes, making sure financial reporting is accurate and delivered on time, while also serving as the internal expert for technical accounting matters. In close partnership with FP&A, Legal, Operations and external specialists, you will support both routine execution and complex questions tied to new products and transactions.
This is a fully remote position and is available to candidates located in Germany, Spain, Portugal or the U.K.
Responsibilities
- Own the monthly close from start to finish and ensure reporting is fast, accurate and well coordinated with Accounting and relevant stakeholders.
- Review and approve accruals, cut-off postings, reconciliations and the reporting materials used by Management and FP&A.
- Serve as the main contact for technical accounting queries, including those related to new business models, contracts and complex treatments.
- Create and maintain documentation and position papers on technical topics such as revenue recognition, capitalization, leases and other advanced accounting areas.
- Coordinate with external accountants, tax advisors and auditors, making sure documentation is strong and collaboration runs smoothly.
- Improve internal controls by identifying unusual items, following up on open points and increasing control effectiveness over time.
- Enhance processes and systems to cut manual work, speed up the close and create scalable, well-documented workflows.
- Use AI tools to assist with analysis, variance explanations, audit preparation and accounting research, while still applying careful review and accountability for the results.
- Help build a modern finance function through automation, standardization and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Several years of practical experience in Accounting, Controlling or Financial Reporting, ideally in a fast-growing and increasingly complex environment.
- Experience leading or coordinating a small accounting team is an advantage.
- Strong working knowledge of German HGB; exposure to IFRS is beneficial.
- Demonstrated ownership of the full monthly close process with a track record of accurate, complete and high-quality reporting.
- Strong internal control mindset, including the ability to spot risks early, design controls and improve processes continuously.
- Advanced DATEV skills and confidence working with accounting systems and financial data.
- Comfort using AI tools to improve productivity in areas such as research, documentation, anomaly detection and reporting support, with sound critical judgment applied to outputs.
- Organized, documentation-led working style with a strong focus on audit readiness and transparency.
- Strong motivation to improve processes and identify scalable solutions for inefficiencies.
- Proven stakeholder management skills, including working effectively with external accountants, tax advisors and auditors.
- Growth-oriented mindset and the ability to stay current with changes in accounting and tax rules, including HGB, VAT and IFRS.
