Role overview
The Shropshire and Mid-Wales Fertility Centre is looking for a Reproductive Science Practitioner to join an experienced multidisciplinary team made up of doctors, nurses, counsellors, administrators, clinical scientists, scientist trainees and practitioners. This role sits within a modern assisted conception unit and combines practical laboratory work with administrative support to help the scientific team deliver fertility treatments.
What you will do
You will support assisted conception services by carrying out both hands-on and administrative duties in the laboratory. The post includes helping with procedures such as IVF and ICSI, as well as contributing to the wider work of the fertility department.
All tasks must be completed to a high standard and only after you have been assessed as competent. In the early stages, your work will be supervised and checked by senior colleagues on a sample or random basis as your skills develop.
You will be expected to work independently within the fertility laboratories once sufficiently proficient, and to maintain a professional, responsible approach in every interaction with patients, colleagues and others you encounter through the role.
Role requirements and background
A degree in Biological Sciences, or a closely related discipline, is required because the role depends on understanding the scientific principles behind laboratory techniques and practices. The post holder must be able to carry out the duties associated with diagnostic semenology and reproductive science carefully, consistently and to a high standard.
About the team and service
The Shropshire & Mid-Wales Fertility Centre is focused on helping people achieve parenthood. Patient care is central to the service, and the whole team works together to provide the best possible experience during and after treatment. The laboratories use advanced technology and tailored treatment plans to support treatment success.
