Principal Software Engineer (System Engineering)

Role overview

The Unstructured Data Storage team builds two core parts of the Dell AI Platform: PowerScale and ObjectScale. These AI-ready storage platforms are designed to handle highly demanding data workloads. In this Cork-based role, you will join the System Engineering team and help advance the future of storage while contributing to work with broad impact across the engineering organization.

What you will do

• Create new frameworks and utilities that strengthen continuous integration, enable smooth release cycles, and improve infrastructure observability.
• Support automated workflows as well as virtual and physical infrastructure, keeping distributed storage systems healthy through monitoring and failure troubleshooting.
• Help define and build the tools, processes, and infrastructure that power the Continuous Integration pipeline.
• Apply company engineering standards and security practices to maintain quality across systems and delivery processes.
• Build improvements that make software delivery more dependable and effective for engineering teams.
• Share knowledge through practical sessions and by keeping technical documentation current and useful.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of relevant experience working with networking and vCenter, ideally in large-scale distributed environments.
• Practical use of SRE approaches for automation, infrastructure operations, monitoring, and incident troubleshooting, including tools such as Salt and Zabbix.
• Working knowledge of Linux, Docker, and shell scripting; familiarity with infrastructure security is an advantage.
• Strong programming ability, preferably in Python; experience with Java or C++ is a plus.
• Hands-on experience administering PostgreSQL or MySQL and writing queries, plus exposure to LDAP directory services is beneficial.
• Ability to turn business needs into exact and unambiguous technical specifications, along with strong prompting and context engineering skills for AI tools.

Additional requirements

• Comfort with learning new tools, languages, and frameworks through training and on-the-job experience.
• Familiarity with distributed or cluster management systems is desirable.
