About the Role
The Principal Advisor, Strategic Projects and Oversight Liaison supports the coordination of responses and the delivery of strategic advice to internal and external oversight bodies and inquiries. The position also helps build productive partnerships across the oversight and advocacy landscape to strengthen transparency and accountability in youth detention service delivery.
This role is involved in gathering information for formal requests, preparing responses to findings, recommendations and reports, and maintaining strong governance arrangements that support effective tracking of recommendations. It also contributes to internal governance forums and project committees, including work tied to major system reform activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Apply cultural capability, or actively build it, to help foster an inclusive workplace aligned with the Human Rights Act 2019 and to support departmental initiatives and community partnerships that maintain cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Help design and implement a practical and effective project governance framework, along with related strategies, policies and guidelines, so major projects and oversight recommendations are delivered consistently.
- Offer high-level advice and assistance in responding to requests from oversight and advocacy functions, reviews, reports and recommendations, while meeting required statutory deadlines.
- Support internal and external stakeholders on youth detention service delivery matters, working with business areas to identify practice issues and develop strategic and operational responses for the department.
- Deliver strong secretariat support to the directorate and relevant governance committees connected to major projects and initiatives.
- Lead, organise, plan, implement and track project progress within demanding timeframes to deliver intended outcomes.
- Coordinate and support the preparation of reports, oversight responses, submissions and executive correspondence.
- Undertake or coordinate research into youth detention service delivery and related practices affecting young people at risk of reoffending, including analysing findings, recommendations and possible actions.
- Build and sustain effective working relationships across the department, government agencies and external stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively within a team and, where required, take on team leadership duties to coordinate activities and contribute to an accountable and equitable workplace as delegated by the Manager.
