Packaging Maintenance Planner

Role overview

This position is centered on coordinating maintenance planning for packaging operations. The main objective is to oversee maintenance systems, manage spares, build routine and planned maintenance schedules, support maintenance execution, and make sure the necessary permit-to-work controls are in place.

Responsibilities

• Lead the pre-planning meeting for planned maintenance, making sure work scope, issues to address, and resource needs are clearly set out.
• Create and organize the full planned maintenance schedule.
• Include ad hoc work in the schedule, prioritize it appropriately, and generate the required work requests.
• Work out the resources needed for each task and allocate work to the relevant people.
• Coordinate with department heads to secure the support and resources needed to finish tasks.
• Support the maintenance team during planned maintenance windows by helping with issue resolution, prioritization, and reassigning resources where needed.
• Move unfinished tasks to the next maintenance window and record all relevant information in the maintenance system.
• Run maintenance postmortems, capture issues, lessons learned, and improvement opportunities.
• Use a structured problem-solving approach when maintenance issues arise during routine or planned work.
• Bring in extra support when needed or escalate matters to an engineer for direction.
• Assist other team members with troubleshooting when requested.
• Contribute as a functional expert in failure-finding analyses when called upon.
• Ensure maintenance-day, cleaning-day, and annual shutdown plans are completed.
• Confirm that all asset care work is completed to the required standards.
• Make sure spares required for the asset care program are available on time and within budget.
• Identify training needs for machine specialists and shift teams, and recommend appropriate development actions.
• Review SAP maintenance data to spot repeat issues and suggest improvements to asset care schedules.
• Coordinate the allocation of process artisans and machine specialists during maintenance days, cleaning days, and annual shutdowns.
• Act as a subject matter expert in asset care problem-solving discussions.

Requirements

• Diploma in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electrical, or a comparable qualification.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in production engineering.
• Practical experience using SAP maintenance systems.
• Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
• Good understanding of maintenance processes and operating practices.
• Detailed knowledge of packaging plant equipment and production processes.
• Confident, assertive leadership style with solid people management ability.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
