Role overview
This is a remote contract opportunity focused on STEM quality assurance review work for materials science and materials engineering. The assignment involves checking graduate-level problem sets and simulated research scenarios so they can be used as reliable training data for advanced language models.
What you will do
- Examine individual STEM QA items for clarity, correctness of the underlying answer, and the soundness of the grading approach.
- Assess multi-step simulated research environments for scientific realism and overall build quality.
- Provide structured decisions using a standardized review format with Accept, Revise, or Reject outcomes, supported by clear written reasons.
- Choose tasks that match your expertise using a 48-hour lease model in a fully asynchronous, flexible schedule.
- Complete roughly 2.5 reviews each week, with each review taking around 2 to 4 hours.
- Work on a 3-week engagement scheduled from 6/5 to 6/25.
- Receive payment weekly through Stripe or Wise as an independent contractor.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or PhD in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a highly related discipline.
- Proven ability to independently confirm ground-truth answers for graduate-level materials problems.
- Capability to evaluate grading methods for reliability and spot weaknesses in task design or scoring logic.
- Experience reading and summarizing model-agent trajectories while distinguishing stronger rollouts from weaker ones.
- Strong analytical judgment and precise written communication for structured review feedback.
- Comfort working independently within a formal review process and completing tasks within 48-hour windows.
- No access to confidential employer, client, or institutional information is needed or allowed.

This engagement is fully remote, contract-based, and organized around a flexible, self-directed workflow. The role is intended for domain experts who can operate independently and provide high-quality scientific review output.
