Role overview
This position is part of the Engineering & Facilities function at a Protea Hotels by Marriott property in New Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. It is a full-time, non-management role based on site.
Key duties
- Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests and work directly with guests or clients to resolve issues.
- Carry out preventive upkeep on kitchen and boiler-room equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.
- Inspect tools, equipment, and machinery visually to spot faults or wear.
- Move maintenance equipment such as tools and radios as needed.
- Locate and operate shut-off valves and utility disconnects for building systems and equipment.
- Track maintenance inventory and request parts or supplies when required.
- Communicate daily work updates and issues to colleagues on other shifts using the appropriate handover process.
- Apply working knowledge or basic aptitude in air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical systems, mechanics, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic controls, carpentry and finishing, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building operations.
- Perform surface preparation and painting, minor drywall and wood repairs, bulb replacement, and air-filter changes, along with thorough cleanup of paint or repair areas.
- Troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on equipment, plumbing blockages, electrical items, guest-room fittings, extension cords, vacuums, internet devices, switches, and outlets.
- Program televisions and complete general engineering maintenance and inventory tasks.
- Use lockout/tagout procedures before starting maintenance work.
- Carry out repairs to indoor and outdoor landscaping areas, including exterior irrigation systems.
- Use computers for basic work tasks, including entering HVAC schedule settings and temperature changes.
- Follow other reasonable duties assigned by management.

Physical requirements
- Be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Be able to lift heavier items or complete movement-based tasks without assistance when needed.
- Climb stairs, service ramps, and ladders.
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, dragging, and stooping.
- Enter and locate work-related information using computers.
Preferred qualifications
A secondary school certificate, GED, or vocational/technical training is preferred. Prior experience in general maintenance, surface preparation, and painting is preferred, and hotel engineering or maintenance experience will be an advantage. No supervisory experience is required.
Mandatory requirement
A valid driver’s license is required.
