Intermediate Data Analyst

Position Overview

The organization is looking for an Intermediate Data Analyst to join the HR Technology team in Toronto, Ontario. This contract role focuses on building and supporting Azure Databricks-based ETL solutions, improving data workflows, and helping deliver large-scale HR technology initiatives. The contractor will partner with business stakeholders and technical teams to create data solutions that are dependable, scalable, and efficient.

Assignment Details

• Location: Toronto, ON
• Work arrangement: Hybrid, with one onsite day every fourth Friday
• Engagement type: Contract
• Contract length: 6 months, with a possibility of extension
• Pay rate: C$55.00 to C$67.00 per hour
• Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
• Weekly hours: 37.5

Key Responsibilities

• Create, enhance, and maintain ETL pipelines built on Azure Databricks
• Contribute to complex HR technology initiatives
• Move and combine data from multiple backend systems and SaaS tools
• Help update and modernize existing data processes
• Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to deliver stable and scalable HR data solutions

Required Background

• 3 to 5 years of experience in data analytics or development
• At least 3 years of hands-on work with Azure Databricks
• Experience using Azure-based data platforms
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
• Clear communication skills for working with both technical and non-technical partners
• Comfort working in a fast-moving enterprise environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to learn and adapt to changing HR technology systems

Preferred Experience

• Exposure to ServiceNow or Jira
• Experience with Informatica is a plus, though not required
• Familiarity with AutoSys
• Experience with Feedhub integration

Candidate Fit Notes

• The hiring team is specifically seeking applicants who can clearly explain what they personally built, how they delivered it, and the technical choices they made.
• Candidates whose Databricks experience has mainly been support or monitoring work will not be a strong match.
• Hands-on development experience in Databricks is essential; the role is focused on actively building solutions rather than simply maintaining existing ones.
• Solid Databricks and data engineering fundamentals are expected for this mid-level position, and gaps in these areas have led to unsuccessful interviews in the past.
• Applicants should be ready to discuss real examples of building data pipelines, working with data lakes, and creating SQL-based solutions.
• The target experience level is strictly 3 to 5 years; profiles with significantly more senior experience are not a fit.
• The interview process includes two interviews with the hiring manager.
