Role overview

The Campus Cleaning Services team within the Estates Department is hiring a Facilities Assistant to support student accommodation and campus facilities. The position focuses on delivering a prompt, customer-oriented service across residences, along with minor maintenance tasks, compliance checks and general support duties.

The Campus Cleaning Services operation supports cleaning across 7,076 campus bedrooms, 479 hotel rooms and 65 university buildings.

Key duties

  • Carry out small-scale, non-technical repairs and basic maintenance work.
  • Replace or service simple fixtures and equipment, and report faults or damage that need specialist attention.
  • Examples of tasks include unblocking toilets and sinks, changing shower fittings, resetting refrigerators, replacing Salto batteries and replacing light bulbs.
  • Clean and maintain entrances, windows, stairways, walls, ceilings, light diffusers and other shared areas to the required standard.

This is a 36.5-hour weekly role working 5 days out of 7 on a rota, including Saturdays and Sundays. Typical weekday hours are Monday to Thursday from 08:30 to 17:00 and Friday from 08:30 to 16:00, while weekend hours vary depending on operational needs.
