Role overview
This opportunity is for an Associate Practitioner / Laboratory Support Technician to join the Axess sexual health laboratory service. The post supports quality assurance, training, and day-to-day service delivery across the Axess region.
The successful candidate will help maintain laboratory standards across the service and provide practical support and training to teams at multiple Axess sites.
This is an exciting period to join the BMS team within Axess, as the service continues to adopt new technologies and extend support to other NHS organisations.
What the role involves
As a Biomedical Scientist Associate Practitioner (Band 4), you will contribute to the delivery of reliable diagnostic laboratory services within Clinical Microbiology / Pathology. Working under the direction of Senior and Specialist Biomedical Scientists, you will carry out routine and semi-complex laboratory procedures, operate and look after automated analysers, and support accurate and timely diagnosis of infectious diseases, including common STI pathogens.
The position plays an important part in achieving efficient turnaround times, upholding quality standards, and supporting patient care across the NHS laboratory service.
You will provide technical support for the diagnostic service to the wider team and service users, following departmental procedures and working under suitable supervision.
The post may also involve supervising, organising, assigning work to, and training less experienced colleagues within your area.
Working pattern
The laboratory support technician will work shifts, including Saturday duty. The role also involves some travel across the Cheshire and Mersey area as part of the Axess footprint.
