Role overview
ACT Policing is seeking expressions of interest from people who want to begin a career as a recruit with ACT Policing in Canberra. This opportunity is the starting point for a structured pathway into sworn policing, where selected candidates train, qualify, and move into frontline duties.
About the role
Recruit trainees join a formal program that prepares them to become sworn officers. Sworn officers are frontline members of ACT Policing who wear a uniform, carry a firearm, and exercise legislative law enforcement powers.
Training and progression
- Complete 6 months of paid training at the College
- Earn the nationally recognised POL50124 Diploma of Policing
- Take part in hands-on training such as defensive tactics and driver training
- Graduate, take the oath, and begin operational policing duties
Eligibility
At the time of registering interest, applicants must be an Australian citizen, at least 18 years old, hold a minimum Year 10 Certificate or equivalent, and possess a current Australian driver’s licence. P-plates are accepted.
Selection process
The recruitment process is thorough and highly competitive. Candidates are supported by the Recruitment team throughout the process. Those who progress are entered into a merit pool and may later receive an offer for a specific recruit course. The course assigned, and therefore the commencement date, depends on the location selected and the course availability at the time of offer.
Pay and conditions
Training is paid, with starting pay from $64,754. After graduation, salary increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement. Further details on entry-level recruit pay and other benefits are available from the employer.
