Role Overview
McLane is looking for a Yardspotter to help manage trailer movement at the distribution center. This role supports the preparation of trailers for shipment and keeps track of the condition and status of loaded trailers to help operations run safely and efficiently.
What You Will Do
- Operate a tractor or yard truck to position trailers and connect them safely, including handling lines as needed.
- Move and place trailers at the correct dock doors or yard locations.
- Refuel tractors or trailers and, when required, wash the equipment.
- Check trailers for visible defects and report concerns.
- Back LTL or drop trailers into the assigned receiving door.
- Inspect loaded trailers to confirm freight is secured, protected from damage, and that refrigeration equipment is working properly; escalate issues to the Operations Manager or Warehouse Lead.
- Drive tractor-trailer units within the yard while following commercial driving rules and using safe maneuvering practices on company property and roads.
- Be willing and able to select, load, unload, and deliver all products customers may order.
- Read labels, instructions, and bills of lading accurately.
- Perform basic math to verify product quantities.
- Handle other tasks as assigned.
What We Are Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- No Class A CDL is required for this role.
- An accident-free driving record for the last three years is preferred.
- Ability to read and understand a wide range of written instructions.
- Ability to understand equipment ID numbering systems.
- Physical capability to stand, walk, sit, climb, reach, bend, squat, and stoop as needed.
- Willingness to follow company rules, safety standards, attendance expectations, and punctuality requirements.
- Ability to lift, lower, carry, push, and pull dividers and bulkheads inside trailers.
- Must be able to read, write, and understand English well enough to perform job duties safely and effectively, including work instructions, safety procedures, and essential communications.
- Applicants may be required to complete a background check and drug screen, subject to applicable law.
