Role overview
Hans Herzog Estate is looking for a seasonal Wine Ambassador to join its Marlborough team from October/November 2026 through April 2027. This position represents the estate to visitors and helps deliver a polished, memorable experience at a respected family-owned organic winery.
The role blends premium wine hosting, relationship-based selling, guest support, day-to-day administration, and occasional digital or marketing tasks. It suits someone who enjoys working in a small, hands-on environment and can step in wherever the team needs support.
What you will do
- Lead premium tastings and private wine experiences with confidence and strong product knowledge.
- Turn guest visits into wine purchases and long-term customer relationships.
- Introduce visitors to the wine club in an authentic, personable way.
- Assist cottage guests with their stay, from booking through to departure.
- Handle reservations, guest enquiries, and point-of-sale transactions.
- Support customer communication, administration, and database upkeep.
- Contribute occasional social media and marketing content.
- Pitch in across the winery team as needed in a flexible, collaborative way.
Candidate profile
The ideal person will bring solid wine knowledge and feel comfortable discussing wine styles, viticulture, and food pairing with a broad range of guests. A warm and confident approach is important, along with a natural ability to sell without being pushy.
Experience in wine tourism, fine wine retail, hospitality, or luxury tourism will be valuable. Qualifications such as WSET Level 2 or above, sommelier training, or equivalent industry experience are strongly preferred. Good organisation, administration, and a positive can-do attitude are essential.
Important eligibility information
Applicants must already have the legal right to work in New Zealand when the role begins. Visa sponsorship is not available. International candidates must already hold, or be eligible to obtain, a New Zealand Working Holiday Visa.
Why this role stands out
This is an opportunity to work closely with Therese and Hans Herzog at one of New Zealand’s leading artisan wine estates. The position offers exposure to premium hospitality, wine sales, marketing, customer relationship building, and the wider operations of a highly regarded family winery.
