Role overview

Amazon is looking for a Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Coordinator to support its vendor accommodation audit program in the UAE. The role focuses on helping ensure that partner-managed living arrangements provide safe, healthy, and respectful conditions for workers, while also driving continuous improvement and compliance with internal standards and local regulations.

In this position, you will carry out site-level assessments, monitor safety and welfare performance, and work with vendors and internal teams to close compliance gaps. You will act as a key point of contact for auditing, remediation tracking, escalation of serious issues, and reporting of compliance trends.

You will report to the WHS Manager, Amazon Operations, and your scope may expand as the program develops.

Key responsibilities

Carry out scheduled and unscheduled accommodation inspections at vendor locations across the UAE in line with Amazon’s accommodation compliance guidance and relevant UAE requirements.
Record audit observations accurately in internal systems, flag critical issues through escalation workflows, and help build corrective action plans with vendors.
Follow up on remediation progress, assess submitted evidence, and escalate vendors that do not respond or do not meet agreed timelines.
Review compliance data, prepare reports, and identify recurring patterns or risk areas that need attention.
Coordinate site access and approvals with vendors, support investigations linked to complaints or incidents, and assist with verification audits when required.
Contribute to broader worker welfare and social responsibility initiatives as the program evolves.

Audit scope

Inspections may cover structural safety, minimum living standards, health and safety controls, fire safety, sanitation, dining facilities, recreation areas, freedom of movement, and overall worker welfare.

The audits will follow Amazon’s Global Accommodation Compliance Guidance and applicable UAE regulations, including UAE Ministerial Decision 591/2016 for accommodations housing fewer than 50 workers and Cabinet Resolution No. 13 of 2009 for accommodations housing 50 or more workers.

Basic qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, or a closely related discipline.
At least 2 years of experience in workplace health and safety, compliance auditing, or a similar area.
Willingness to travel frequently across vendor accommodation sites in the UAE.
A valid UAE driving licence, or willingness to obtain one.
Strong English communication skills; Arabic is considered an added advantage.
Hands-on experience with data analysis and compliance metrics reporting.

Preferred experience

Background in social compliance, accommodation audits, or third-party vendor audits.
Experience creating corrective action plans and managing vendor remediation.
Knowledge of UAE labour and accommodation regulations, especially the two cited accommodation standards, is beneficial; onboarding training will be provided.
NEBOSH, IOSH, or an equivalent WHS certification is a plus.
Good stakeholder-management skills and the ability to collaborate across functions and communicate clearly in writing and presentations.
