What the role involves
This position is responsible for servicing transit vehicles and supporting the maintenance team with a range of depot and fleet-related tasks.
- Carry out vehicle servicing work such as fuelling, checking and topping up fluid levels, cleaning the exterior and interior of vehicles, testing auxiliary equipment, and completing minor maintenance or repair tasks.
- Examine vehicle lights, overall body condition, tires, wheels, windshield wipers, and similar items, then report any issues to the shift supervisor.
- Safeguard cash forms and fareboxes during the changeover process and maintain the related records accurately.
- Prepare transit coaches for the next day’s route schedule assignments.
- Handle general caretaking and housekeeping duties in department facilities.
- Complete additional duties as needed.
What you need
Applicants are expected to have the knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through completion of Grade 10 and successful completion of the first year of any mechanical trade program.
Working conditions and other requirements
- You must be able to work non-standard hours and rotating or varying shifts.
- A valid Class 1A driver’s licence is required.
- Selected candidates may need to provide a satisfactory criminal record check in line with the City’s policy.
- Proof of education must be provided.
- Additional assessments may be used to evaluate skills, knowledge, and competencies.
