Thermal Spray Coating Operator

A Day in the Role

In this position, you will be responsible for applying advanced thermal coating processes to turbine parts. You will run and supervise coating equipment, maintain compliance with technical drawings and quality requirements, and work within strict safety guidelines. Your output will help ensure the dependability and efficiency of essential energy machinery.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, run, and oversee coating booths used for turbine component work, following approved methods and technical requirements.
• Carry out thermal spray operations such as APS and HVOF according to established recipes and work instructions to meet the expected quality and performance results.
• Track and adjust operating variables like temperature, pressure, and flow to stay within manufacturing limits.
• Examine coated parts against specifications, spot defects, and take corrective action when needed.
• Conduct coating verification checks, including coat weight and functional property tests, to protect product quality.
• Tune equipment settings, fixtures, and process inputs to improve coating consistency and productivity.
• Safely manage incoming materials and completed parts, including loading and unloading tasks.
• Work closely with engineering and technical colleagues to support ongoing process improvements.
• Follow EHS requirements and contribute to operational excellence in day-to-day work.

What You Need

• Hands-on exposure to thermal spray methods such as APS and HVOF, or experience operating CNC equipment in a manufacturing setting.
• Experience with ABB or FANUC robotic systems is beneficial; CNC operating experience can be considered instead of robotic thermal spray experience.
• Solid understanding of process control, inspection methods, and quality-focused manufacturing practices.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions accurately.
• Strong troubleshooting ability and a detail-oriented approach.
• Comfort using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and basic computer tools.
• A diploma in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Technology, or an equivalent technical qualification.
• At least 3 years of experience in coating operations, CNC machining, or similar industrial manufacturing work.

Team and Organization

You will join the Gas Services division, which focuses on lower-emission power generation through service, modernization, and decarbonization. The portfolio includes gas turbines, steam turbines, and generators, supporting both zero- and low-emission energy solutions.
