About the Role
IBM is growing its IBM Z development organization in Waterford, Ireland, and this role will play a key part in that expansion. The position is intended to strengthen the local team while staying closely connected to IBM Z teams across regions, IBM and Red Hat partners, and academic institutions.
The work combines industrial research with product development to shape innovative enterprise solutions. It contributes to IBM's direction for IBM Z multi-architecture deployments, Linux, and AI.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical direction for IBM Z development teams.
- Drive infrastructure improvements for IBM Z, including Linux kernel work and multi-architecture deployment capabilities.
- Support AI-focused solutions that are built on top of the improved infrastructure.
- Coach and support junior developers through mentoring.
- Encourage and contribute to developer certification efforts.
- Partner with international leaders to coordinate planning and product integration.
- Build and maintain university relationships, including developing lecture material suited to IBM Z needs.
- Work with clients, technical sales teams, and product management to set development priorities.
- Lead technical interviews during the hiring process.
- Collaborate with Red Hat leadership to strengthen joint work and coordination.
Work Arrangement
This is an onsite role in Waterford, County Waterford, Ireland, with an expectation to work from the office 3 days each week.
Preferred Education
A bachelor's degree is preferred for this position.
Required Experience and Expertise
- Strong Linux expertise and recent hands-on experience with low-level C/C++ programming.
- Proven technical leadership, including participation in architecture review forums and discussions with executive leadership on roadmaps and strategy across product stacks.
- Experience across several technical leadership roles.
- Ability to teach and explain technical topics clearly.
- A well-established professional network across IBM, universities, and client organizations.
Preferred Background
- Strong interest in IBM Z, Linux, open source, and machine learning.
- Experience in forming and scaling new teams.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technical areas.
