Role overview
A medical device manufacturer in Galway is hiring a Supply Chain Manager to oversee materials flow from supplier receipt through production use and finished-goods delivery. Reporting to the VP of Operations, this is a senior leadership position with responsibility for end-to-end supply chain coordination.
Inventory and warehouse management
- Keep raw materials and components at levels that support uninterrupted production.
- Own the processes for receiving, storing, and issuing materials while ensuring proper labelling, separation, and storage requirements are followed.
- Track stock across both internal and external storage sites.
- Watch reorder points, shelf life, and expiry dates to reduce shortages and avoid obsolescence.
Planning and operations
- Work with demand planning to schedule production with the operations team.
- Coordinate with production planning and scheduling so material availability matches production requirements.
- Partner with quality assurance on incoming inspection planning and scheduling to support compliant and timely release of materials.
- Raise and manage purchase orders for materials and components in line with approved supplier agreements.
- Lead ERP implementation and ongoing use, maintaining accurate supply chain master data and using analytics to support decisions.
- Take part in the S&OP process with the commercial team and other stakeholders to support level-loaded production planning.
- Ensure key performance indicators such as OTIF and supplier performance are met and improved.
Supplier management
- Act as the main contact for assigned suppliers and manage day-to-day material supply relationships.
- Oversee supplier development, pricing, and service level agreements.
- Track supplier delivery performance, escalate issues quickly, and drive resolution.
- Lead forecasting and planning discussions with suppliers to maintain supply continuity and align demand.
- Work with quality to manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests, including root cause analysis and closure.
- Identify supply chain risks early and take steps to reduce them.
People leadership
- Manage and develop the growing supply chain team, giving clear direction, support, and performance oversight.
- Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders including customers, commercial teams, and operations teams.
Candidate profile
The ideal candidate will hold a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Science, or a similar field, along with at least 5 years of experience in materials, supply chain, or inventory management. A minimum of 2 years should be at supervisory or management level. Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment is important, and background in medical devices or pharmaceuticals is strongly preferred. Practical use of ERP systems and SIOP processes is expected, and familiarity with ISO 13485 or another relevant quality management system would be an advantage.
