About the Role
Planet’s Professional Services team supports Defense and Intelligence customers in adopting the Planet Platform and achieving fast value from Planet data and analytics. The Global D&I team is hiring a Solutions Architect to lead implementation, integration, and analysis work for new software and data products that extend the platform and unlock new capabilities for strategic customers. You will work directly with customers to train users, turn business needs into technical solutions, shape workflows, and relay mission-critical requirements to Planet’s product teams. This role has high visibility and directly influences how quickly customers can use Planet’s datasets and how efficiently new customers are onboarded.
This is a full-time, in-office role in Abu Dhabi, UAE, requiring five days a week on site. The position is contingent on award.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess customer goals and build solutions that are aligned to their specific mission needs.
- Work through complex, uncertain problems by separating them into practical, workable parts.
- Use strong analytical thinking to support D&I customers and deliver mission-relevant products.
- Create workflows, define data structures, configure integrations, and help shape tools that fit the customer mission.
- Train users, refine solutions alongside them in real time, and help make Planet products part of daily operations.
- Convert operational needs into clear product feedback for Planet engineering teams.
- Explain technical capabilities to customers in plain, mission-oriented language.
- Build, test, and adjust prototypes quickly to match real operational requirements.
- Partner with decision makers and analysts to map strategy and troubleshoot workflow issues.
- Collaborate closely with customer teams to understand their processes, pain points, and mission priorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or an equivalent field.
- At least 4 years of experience supporting Defense and Intelligence customers, including technical systems integration work.
- Hands-on experience with Golang, Python, PostgreSQL, and React, or similar technologies.
- Background in cloud deployments such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Strong problem-solving ability and a systems-oriented mindset.
- Excellent communication skills and experience managing stakeholders.
- Ability to learn unfamiliar technical tools and domains quickly.
- Comfort working in ambiguous, high-pressure settings.
- Strong curiosity and willingness to dig into operational detail.
- Ability to translate smoothly between technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience solving complex issues through analytical methods.
- Experience scaling and maintaining production systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting defense and intelligence organizations in the UAE.
- Systems integration experience in multi-domain or multi-level security environments, especially within Defense and Intelligence.
- Working knowledge of JavaScript mapping tools such as OpenLayers, Leaflet, and ArcGIS API for JavaScript, plus Google Earth Engine and its SDK.
- Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and SQL, as well as distributed NoSQL systems.
- Background in geopolitics and data science.
- Ability to quickly learn new technologies.
- Experience building analytical products from complex datasets.
- Experience with geospatial technologies and data.
- GEOINT, imagery exploitation, and imagery analysis experience.
- Ability to communicate in multiple languages.
