Role overview
The Shipping Clerk supports outbound distribution by making sure product shipments are billed correctly, tracked accurately through the shipping workflow, and matched to food safety and traceability requirements. This role also serves as a document liaison, passing sales orders and purchase orders to warehouse teams so shipments are prepared correctly and assigned to the right carrier.
Key responsibilities
- Enter shipping data and maintain accurate records of product movements in FAMOUS®.
- Watch FAMOUS® regularly for updates and new orders, then print the required pick tickets.
- Escalate any order differences or irregularities to supervisors.
- Verify that pick tickets and related documents are completed properly and attached to the correct bills of lading.
- Sort, copy, and distribute tallies and pick tickets, and post them on the shipping board as trucks arrive.
- Create pick tickets, investigate mismatches, and complete any needed revisions.
- Check customs paperwork and coordinate with customs brokers when required.
- Work with sales teams and drivers to update tallies, communicate purchase orders, reprint pick tickets and bills of lading, and prepare inventory printouts for shippers.
- Follow GMP, SOP, policy, and procedure requirements at all times.
- Take on other duties that fit the company’s operational needs.
Requirements and qualifications
- High school completion is required.
- Post-secondary study in business, or a post-graduate certificate, is preferred.
- Two to three years of record management experience in the produce industry is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, health and safety, and food safety expectations.
- Previous experience with FAMOUS® ERP software is an advantage.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills are required.
- Strong number handling, basic math, and problem-solving ability.
- High attention to detail and a consistent focus on accuracy.
- Ability to work on your own with minimal supervision and step into leadership when needed.
- Strong organization, multitasking, and communication skills in a busy environment.
Working conditions
This role may require schedule flexibility based on business requirements. Work takes place in a refrigerated warehouse environment, where noise can be high because of packaging equipment and forklift activity. The job also involves regular use of office equipment such as computers, telephones, printers/copiers, filing systems, and fax machines. The position requires prolonged computer use and may involve sitting or standing for extended periods. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, and handling product or packaging by hand. Lifting may be required up to 30 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Compensation and benefits
The hourly pay range for this position is CAD 18 to 20. Final pay may vary depending on experience, skills, internal equity, and location. The total rewards package includes employer-paid benefits, RRSP matching, and paid time off.
