Role Summary
This position supports the Store Manager with day-to-day operations to keep thrift store activities running smoothly. When needed, the role also functions as a Sales Associate. The job is based at 1185 Mountain Road, Moncton, New Brunswick.
Key Duties
- Serve customers and donors in a professional, courteous, and welcoming way.
- Safeguard the quality and integrity of donated goods.
- Accurately process transactions, including cash and debit payments.
- Help support store budget goals by maintaining strong customer service standards.
- Carry out store opening and closing procedures when assigned.
- Load, unload, sort, pack, price, and store donated materials.
- Use product knowledge to answer questions from customers by phone or in person.
- Monitor store activity to help maintain security.
- Handle merchandise safely and in an orderly way, including stock rotation.
- Support inventory control through receiving, sorting, and pricing according to instructions.
- Assist with store presentation, including window and merchandise displays, and keep the store tidy and visually appealing.
- Restock inventory as directed by the supervisor and remove items from the sales floor when instructed.
- Ensure donated goods are sorted and processed in line with quality standards.
- Keep the store clean and organized by sweeping, dusting, mopping, tidying, and restocking shelves as needed.
- Follow store policies and procedures at all times.
- Assist with inventory checks and cycle counting.
- Deliver excellent service to guests and donors.
- Act as a working team lead for Store Associates when the Store Manager is absent.
- Provide operational guidance and on-the-job support to staff when required.
- Help maintain a safe and healthy workplace in line with health and safety requirements.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Reporting and Relationships
The role reports to the Store Manager and has no direct reports. Internal contacts include NRO administration, management, and staff. External contacts include donors, clients, and contractors.
Work Conditions
- This is a permanent, full-time role.
- Work takes place in a standard store setting.
- The job involves frequent physical effort, including stretching, lifting up to 30 pounds without assistance, bending, twisting, pushing, standing, and walking.
- Exposure to dust, fumes, and temperature changes is common.
- Deadlines must be met consistently.
- The role involves frequent interaction and occasional conflict with guests, donors, vendors, and coworkers.
- Tasks vary and may include repetitive work.
- Safety shoes must be worn at all times in Store and DRC locations.
Education and Experience
- Some high school education is required.
- At least 2 years of experience in a store or warehouse setting is expected.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.
Skills and Capabilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Attention to detail.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds frequently, along with bending, twisting, pushing, and pulling merchandise.
- Ability to pass the organization’s screening and background check process.
- Willingness to understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army as it relates to the role.
- Commitment to working in compliance with occupational health and safety rules and internal safety policies.
Compensation
The intended pay range for this role is $15.91 to $19.89, with a maximum of $23.86. Placement within the range depends on market conditions, internal equity, and the candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and qualifications.
