School Custodian

Role overview

ABM is hiring a dependable School Custodian to handle routine cleaning and upkeep in assigned spaces within a K-12 school, college, or university campus setting in Tuskegee, Alabama.

Key duties

• Keep assigned spaces clean and orderly, including classrooms, corridors, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairwells.
• Sweep floors, pick up debris, clean spills, and mop surfaces in the designated areas.
• Monitor trash containers regularly and remove waste when needed.
• Use cleaning chemicals and powered equipment correctly to avoid harm to floors, fixtures, or other surfaces.
• Inform a lead cleaner or supervisor when repairs or additions to building systems are needed.
• Build and maintain good working relationships with clients, coworkers, shift leads, supervisors, and managers.
• Sort, gather, and place recycling in the proper bins.
• Dust and clean desks, chairs, tables, fixtures, doors, ledges, floors, ceilings, and walls.
• Buff and polish hard surfaces such as wood and stainless steel.
• Clean tables, chairs, and equipment in food service areas.
• Relocate cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment as needed for cleaning, either by hand or with a hand truck.
• Wash interior glass surfaces such as windows, partitions, and mirrors using appropriate cleaners and tools.
• Handle outside and seasonal tasks such as sweeping walkways, raking leaves, cutting grass, and removing snow.
• Keep restrooms clean, polished, and presentable.
• Follow the company’s, client’s, and regulatory safety, security, compliance, and quality standards at all times.

Qualifications

This role is open to candidates who are at least 18 years old. No prior experience is required, and on-the-job training is provided. A high school diploma, GED, or college degree is not necessary. Candidates with customer service experience or around one year of similar work experience may be preferred.
