Role overview
JJ Rhatigan & Company is a major building contractor operating across Ireland and the UK. The business is hiring a Purchasing Administrator for its Galway location, offering the chance to join an established main contractor and contribute to award-winning projects valued in the multi-million-euro range.
What you will do
- Oversee important purchasing spend categories, including items such as PPE and concrete accessories.
- Support the processing and updating of delivery dockets so records remain current.
- Issue material tender requests by email.
- Review quotations and compile comparison documents for approval.
- Help ensure procurement of goods and services is handled consistently and ethically.
- Stay informed about changes and trends in local, national, and international supply markets.
- Maintain strong working relationships with suppliers.
- Assist in identifying and selecting suppliers for sites across different locations.
- Keep SAP price books updated on a routine basis.
- Review spend on SAP for agreed products and, where needed, launch tender enquiries to secure competitive pricing.
- Monitor and report project costs against budgets for agreed spend categories.
- Support the extraction of information from bills of quantities under supervision to help obtain tender quotations.
- Understand the commercial and basic operational principles behind the function.
- Contribute to purchasing and procurement tasks wherever needed.
- Develop strong product knowledge for regularly purchased materials and the suppliers who can deliver within required timelines.

- Good technical judgement to suggest alternative materials or working methods and assess value for money.
- Strong negotiation ability.
- Attention to detail when comparing quotes, spotting risks or opportunities, and acting accordingly.
- Clear communication skills across all levels of the supply market.
- Previous experience in construction is beneficial.
