About the Company

Notion is an AI-powered collaborative workspace designed to help teams and agents think and work together in one place. The product brings knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools into a single environment so work feels faster, clearer, and less scattered. It is used by millions of individuals, small businesses, and enterprise teams.

Employees at Notion are expected to help shape the future of work by building thoughtfully crafted products that are durable, human-centered, and useful at scale. The company focuses on more than shipping features; teams work to define how people collaborate in the AI era, from operating systems of record to AI agents and automation that removes repetitive work.

About the Role

This position is for a designer with strong product judgment, UX instincts, technical fluency, and high attention to craft. The work involves creating software experiences that feel timeless, approachable, and polished while still serving real business needs. The role is based in San Francisco or New York City, and collaboration is expected in person on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, which are the company’s anchor days.

What You Will Do

  • Develop product ideas that balance ambition, quality, delivery speed, and commercial value.
  • Shape the complete experience for new features, from early concept through UX and final visual execution.
  • Lead initiatives from start to finish in collaboration with engineers, carrying ideas through to launch.
  • Work closely with Customer Experience, Sales, and Customer Success to understand the needs of different user groups and use those insights to guide planning and prioritization.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to create compelling stories across the customer journey, including the website, product, help content, and other channels.
  • Design and evolve intuitive, practical product patterns and contribute intentionally to the design system as the product grows.

What We Are Looking For

  • At least 5 years of experience and the ability to own projects independently from end to end.
  • Strong customer empathy and the ability to translate user needs into effective product experiences.
  • Comfort working through ambiguous problems and defining clear mental models and user flows.
  • Ability to create interfaces that are clear, usable, and visually refined.
  • Good business judgment, with the ability to balance aesthetics, speed, and practical outcomes.
  • A collaborative mindset, with strong opinions that remain open to feedback and discussion.
  • Ability to combine writing and visual communication to build alignment and tell product stories.
  • Experience working across design, engineering, research, data, and project management partners.

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing and building excellent tools with small teams.
  • A perspective that adds to a diverse, complementary team.
  • Direct experience with fragmented tools or information silos and motivation to solve those problems.
  • Familiarity with influential computing thinkers such as Douglas Engelbart, Alan Kay, and Bret Victor.
  • The ability to code as a designer.

Compensation

For San Francisco-based candidates, the estimated base salary range is $205,000 to $300,000 per year. Compensation may differ depending on location, role scope, complexity, experience, and expertise. The package may also include equity and benefits.
