Role overview

Royal Mail is recruiting a Postie / Postal Delivery Driver for the Armagh Delivery Office in BT61 7AA. This is a permanent, onsite role where you’ll represent a trusted postal service by delivering letters and parcels across Armagh.

The position offers a salary of £13.68 per hour, paid monthly, with paid overtime available.

Working pattern

You’ll be scheduled for 35 hours per week, working 5 days out of 6 from Monday to Saturday, with typical working hours of 08:15 to 16:20. The rota is rotational, and both hours and delivery routes can change depending on demand, including some weekend working.

What the role involves

This job combines outdoor work, customer contact, and active delivery duties. You’ll sort mail at the delivery office, deliver letters and parcels by van and on foot, and build positive relationships with customers in your local area.

The role goes beyond standard post delivery and may include important items such as exam results, birthday cards, business orders, and other meaningful deliveries.

Day-to-day expectations

The work is physically demanding and fast-paced. You should be prepared for long-distance walking of up to 12 miles or 20,000+ steps, daily driving of a Royal Mail van, delivery work in all weather conditions, handling high parcel volumes, and busy, time-sensitive days, particularly during peak periods.

About you

Royal Mail will provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be comfortable working outdoors and independently, while staying organised, resilient, and focused on customer service.

Important job conditions

This is a permanent contract. You must be able to securely deliver everything on your route, including election materials and certain regulated items such as food products or alcohol, in line with Royal Mail’s business standards. Requirements

• A full UK manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points, registered in your current name and address
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van every day and pass a driving assessment
• Good physical fitness, including the ability to walk long distances, climb stairs and hills, and carry mailbags of 10 kg or more
• Reliability and self-motivation
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to stay resilient in a busy environment
• A customer-first attitude and pride in delivering a high standard of service
• Comfort working independently outdoors
