What the job involves

The Patient Transporter is responsible for moving patients, medical equipment, and patient-related items to the correct destinations within the hospital in a safe and timely manner.

Key duties

• Move patients safely while securing IV lines, drainage tubes, and other attached medical devices.
• Use wheelchairs and other approved transport equipment appropriately during patient movement.
• Handle patients across different age groups with the right level of care and competence.
• Ensure patients reach the correct destination on time and with the proper equipment.
• Stay in clear communication with nurses, clinicians, technicians, reception staff, and dispatch.
• Support patient comfort by being attentive, offering blankets when needed, respecting modesty, and maintaining appropriate conversation.
• Avoid transporting patients who are in severe pain.
• Report signs of distress or any equipment issues to nursing staff right away.
• Care for transport equipment and report anything that needs repair.
• Follow all applicable standards and regulations, including federal, state, and JCAHO requirements.
• Protect confidentiality and follow patient rights policies, including HIPAA procedures.
• Carry out additional tasks as assigned.
