This role is with L&T’s modular fabrication facility at Kattupalli, which is part of Larsen & Toubro’s wider engineering and construction business. The facility handles complex modular fabrication assignments for sectors including oil & gas, petrochemicals, and heavy industry. Role summary
The Painting Inspector position is a full-time, on-site role in Tiruchirappalli. The person in this role will oversee and check surface preparation, painting, and coating activities to make sure they match project standards, industry norms, and safety rules. The job involves reviewing work instructions and drawings, carrying out visual and measurable inspections, validating material certificates, and recording findings in reports and checklists.
Key duties
You will work closely with supervisors, paint and insulation teams, and quality personnel to identify and close out non-conformities, support corrective actions, and assist with pre-commissioning quality checks. The role also includes keeping inspection records up to date, joining toolbox talks and quality discussions, and contributing to ongoing improvements in coating and insulation practices.
Qualifications and technical expectations
The position calls for strong supervisory capability to monitor painting and insulation work, coordinate crews, and help maintain schedules and safety practices. A solid understanding of paints and coatings is important, including surface preparation, application methods, drying and curing needs, and material compatibility with different substrates.
Experience in insulation work for industrial or modular fabrication projects is also valuable, especially when checking installation quality and specification compliance. Quality control knowledge is expected, along with familiarity with standards such as ISO, NACE, and SSPC, and the use of inspection instruments like DFT gauges, hygrometers, and surface profile gauges.
Candidates should be able to read and understand technical drawings, method statements, and quality plans, and should bring strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability. Good communication, teamwork, and a strong commitment to safety and compliance are essential in this industrial fabrication setting. A diploma or degree in engineering or a related technical field is required, and certification in painting or coating inspection such as NACE or an equivalent is an added advantage.
