Role overview
The New York State Senate office for District 6 is looking for a proactive, highly organized Legislative Policy Aide to support legislative work, budget analysis, and district funding efforts. This role contributes to policy development, tracks legislation, and helps move forward initiatives that serve constituents in District 6.
The successful candidate should be analytical, detail-focused, and self-motivated, with a strong interest in state government, public policy, and public finance. The position requires the ability to juggle several priorities in a busy legislative setting.
Legislative and policy support
- Investigate bills and regulatory matters, then turn findings into clear summaries and policy recommendations.
- Prepare concise bill briefs and internal memoranda for the Senator and senior staff.
- Monitor legislation as it moves through committee, budget, and floor stages, while keeping tracking tools up to date.
- Develop briefing packets for hearings, meetings, and conferences.
- Join legislative meetings, hearings, and briefings when needed and capture key takeaways.
Budget and financial support
- Track progress of the New York State budget process, including both executive and legislative proposals.
- Assist with reviewing budget items, appropriations, and possible fiscal effects.
- Support preparation of budget request briefings.
- Maintain spreadsheets and internal trackers tied to funding and financial priorities.
Grants and district funding support
- Help receive, review, and organize capital and discretionary funding requests.
- Check that applications and backup materials are complete and filed within required timelines.
- Act as a resource for community organizations looking for guidance on funding opportunities.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $50,000 to $65,000 per year, with pay aligned to experience.
