Role Summary
Western State Hospital, part of Virginia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, is hiring a full-time Housekeeping Worker to help maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming setting for patients, employees, and visitors at its Staunton, Virginia facility.
About the Workplace
Western State Hospital has served psychiatric patients since 1828 and operates as a 302-bed facility accredited by the Joint Commission and CMS. The hospital is located in the Shenandoah Valley and offers a clinical environment supported by experienced staff, along with access to nearby cities such as Charlottesville and Harrisonburg.
Position Details
State role title: Hsekeep &/or Apparel Worker I. Hiring range begins at $34,323, with final compensation adjusted based on experience. This is a Pay Band 1 role under the Department of Behavioral Health/Develop. The recruitment is open to the general public.
Work location: 103 Valley Center Drive, Staunton, VA 24401.
Key Duties
- Clean bathrooms and shower areas every day.
- Remove trash on a daily basis.
- Mop floors daily and complete dust mopping and wet mopping as needed.
- Clean walls and ceilings when required.
- Perform floor buffing each week.
Minimum Job Requirements
The role calls for practical knowledge of cleaning bathrooms, bedrooms, dayrooms, floor finishes, and housekeeping equipment operation. Candidates should also be able to read and write, do basic arithmetic, lift heavy items, stand and walk for long periods, move across different surfaces, climb ladders, work on their knees, and handle changing work conditions.

- High school diploma or an equivalent credential.
- Prior housekeeping experience.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license.
- Bilingual ability.
