About the Company
Speedy is a major hire specialist in the UK, offering one of the broadest selections of tools, specialist equipment, plant and support services for a wide variety of jobs.
Role Overview
The Hire Controller position is based at the depot in Peterlee and plays a key operational role at the customer-facing end of the business. The job sits at the centre of sales and service delivery, with a strong focus on building relationships and coordinating the full hire journey from order placement through to delivery and collection.
You will work closely with different parts of the depot to make sure customer requirements are met efficiently and that service levels remain high. The role is primarily desk-based and involves regular coordination with stock teams, drivers and engineers to minimise delays and keep equipment flowing smoothly.
Working Pattern
This is a full-time onsite role with hours from Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00, totalling 42 hours per week.
Key Duties
The role involves managing the hire process end to end, keeping communication flowing between departments, and ensuring customers receive the right equipment on time. Strong internal coordination is essential to reduce waiting time and support smooth daily operations.
What You Need
To succeed in this role, you should bring strong organisation, confident verbal and written communication, adaptability, and a genuine willingness to learn and grow. A driving licence is required. Previous experience in the hire sector, or in a similar sales or operational position, is also expected.
You should also be able to support the business unit and team in delivering the ESG strategy, Decade to Deliver.
Benefits
The package includes 26 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, life assurance, a pension scheme, canteen facilities, and a 95% discount across the Speedy brand. Additional support includes training and development opportunities, career progression pathways, a voluntary health cash plan, discounts through My Staff Shop, access to the Green Commute Initiative, and the PAM Employee Assistance Program, which provides free and confidential help with wellbeing, divorce, legal matters and financial concerns.
Work-Life Balance and Progression
Speedy promotes a Work Life Balance initiative designed to reduce core contracted hours, support wellbeing, and encourage more balanced working patterns. Flexible arrangements may be available, including flexible start and finish times, shorter working days, term-time hours and job share options. The company also provides a Career Line of Sight to help colleagues understand progression routes within the wider Speedy Group.
Additional Information
Speedy may close vacancies earlier than advertised if a high number of applications is received, so early submission is advised. Some roles within The Speedy Group UK&I may require DBS, credit or security clearance checks. The business is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications without regard to ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or parental status, national origin, veteran status, neurodiversity status or disability status. All roles require proof of the right to work in the UK by the start date.
