Along with counseling support, the position includes leading interactive learning sessions in classrooms and after-school settings to help young people build confidence and make informed choices. You will also work with students, families, and school staff to raise awareness of available health services and encourage participation in programs. The job combines education, outreach, and care coordination in a relationship-focused setting, and is best suited to someone who enjoys youth development, open conversations, and making a positive difference for young people.

Responsibilities

  • Create supportive, trusted connections with adolescents through one-on-one and group education on healthy decision-making, sexual health, and general wellness.
  • Plan and deliver interactive, age-appropriate sessions in classrooms, after-school programs, and community-based settings for students and families.
  • Collaborate with school personnel and clinical partners to help students receive coordinated, high-quality support.
  • Carry out outreach and enrollment activities by engaging students and families during school events and in the wider school community.
  • Assist students in connecting with reproductive and family planning services through education, referrals, and follow-up support.
  • Maintain service, outcome, and participation records to help monitor program goals and strengthen continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the delivery of evidence-based health education programs and tailor materials for diverse youth groups.
  • Identify, train, and support peer health educators to strengthen student leadership and voice.
  • Stay up to date through continued training and apply new learning to improve programming.
  • Protect confidentiality and privacy while helping maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all students.
  • Step in at other locations or events when needed to keep services running smoothly.
  • Handle additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, community health, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience of 3–4 years in youth-focused health education.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading workshops or delivering education/counseling to adolescents, especially in sexual and reproductive health.
  • Spanish/English bilingual ability is preferred.
  • Comfort discussing sensitive subjects such as sexual health, relationships, and HIV/STI prevention in a respectful, clear, and non-judgmental manner.
  • Strong people skills and communication ability, with the capacity to build genuine connections with diverse youth and families.
  • Background in school-based, community-based, or youth development settings, including facilitating engaging, age-appropriate group discussions and workshops.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, clinicians, and community partners.
  • Flexibility to adjust communication style and approach for different audiences and experiences.
  • Demonstrated cultural humility and respect for diverse communities.
  • Initiative in outreach and comfort engaging students and families in services and programs.
  • Strong organizational skills, including juggling multiple priorities, keeping accurate records, and tracking outcomes.
  • Discretion when handling sensitive information and a consistent commitment to confidentiality.
  • Openness to feedback, training, and ongoing improvement.
  • Willingness to remain flexible and support team needs as required.
