Customer Delivery Driver

About the role

As Tesco’s representative on the road, this position involves delivering groceries directly to customers’ homes while providing friendly, dependable service. The work is active and varied, with each shift bringing different routes, customers, and situations. You’ll spend much of the day working on your own, while still having access to support from managers and colleagues at the store base.

Working pattern

The availability window for this role is:

• Thursday: 18:00 to 23:00
• Friday: 17:30 to 23:00
• Saturday: 08:00 to 23:00

The role carries a guaranteed minimum of 16 hours per week, although 12-hour roles are also available.

Pay

Hourly pay begins at £14.18, with the rate increasing to £15.45 in stores inside the M25. Some locations may also include extra payments.

Key duties

You will be expected to keep the van, trays, and working area clean, organised, and ready for use so deliveries arrive in excellent condition. You will load the vehicle safely, complete all required checks, and make sure it is road-ready before setting off. When changes are needed, you’ll explain substitutions, short-dated products, or order amendments clearly and politely, and process refunds where appropriate. Careful handling of goods is essential so that every order reaches the customer in good condition. Deliveries must be completed within the agreed time slot, with a friendly and professional doorstep experience.

This job calls for a warm, reassuring manner with both customers and colleagues, plus the ability to adapt quickly when plans change. Building good working relationships and contributing to strong team spirit are important parts of delivering excellent service.

Requirements

You must hold a valid UK, EU, or EEA driving licence for at least 12 months. The licence can be full or automatic, and you should have no more than 3 penalty points. You’ll also need to be comfortable responding to changing customer needs while working on the road and in store.
