Role Overview
The Chief Accountant will lead the day-to-day accounting function, ensuring accurate control, analysis, and reporting of financial data, budgets, and statements. This role also includes maintaining proper account reconciliations and supporting the wider finance operation.
Core Responsibilities
You will be responsible for supervising key accounting activities, preparing financial outputs, supporting planning cycles, and coordinating with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage the full set of accounting operations, such as payables, receivables, general ledger activities, and tax-related work.
- Prepare recurring financial statements and weekly cash flow updates in line with IFRS, then submit them to the reporting manager.
- Contribute to the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecast cycles alongside internal teams.
- Track outstanding payables and receivables and ensure related reconciliations are completed accurately.
- Coordinate regularly with the reporting manager and other internal teams on financial reporting matters and accounting queries.
- Handle payroll preparation and support the monthly close process.
- Keep an eye on inventory balances and assist with stock depreciation management.
- Review, check, and approve tax filings in accordance with local laws and regulations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with banks and financial institutions to secure favorable commercial terms for the business.
- Support external and internal audits by providing the required records, explanations, and documentation.
- Evaluate existing procedures to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Ensure the company’s current IT systems are used effectively and contribute to the rollout of new tools and workflows.
Leadership and Team Development
This position also has a people-management component focused on building team capability and continuity.
- Guide and mentor the team while encouraging accountability and ownership.
- Strengthen team skills and help establish a reliable succession plan.
- Carry out regular performance evaluations, identify training gaps, and oversee development plans.
Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
- Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in a similar position.
