Role overview

GHD is seeking a Botanist/Zoologist to join its Ecology team in Perth. The role sits within a growing Environment business that works across impact assessment, approvals, and ecological services, with projects spanning renewable energy, critical minerals, Defence, and other major sectors. This is an opportunity to contribute to work that supports a more sustainable future while being part of a global network of technical specialists.

What you will do

  • Lead and carry out botanical field surveys across the state, including detailed, basic, and targeted flora and community surveys, along with plant identification work.
  • Prepare technical documentation such as vegetation and flora assessments, clearing assessments, and supporting material for referrals and environmental reviews.
  • Develop proposals that help win new work and support business expansion.
  • Travel throughout the state for survey work, including remote assignments that may run for extended periods.
  • Undertake ecology surveys and related assessments as needed.
  • Stay current with ecology guidance, botanical standards, and approval requirements.
  • Use your expertise to make technical judgements and recommend practical solutions.

What you should bring

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science or a related ecology field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant consulting experience as a botanist; Western Australia experience is preferred but not essential.
  • A current Class C driver’s licence, with manual driving ability preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of environmental legislation and current environmental issues.
  • Experience in proposal writing, project management, and collaborative team environments.
  • Experience supervising junior staff and mentoring others.
  • The ability to deliver important project outcomes under pressure with energy and commitment.

Additional information

Relocation to Western Australia from elsewhere in Australia will be considered.
