About the Team
The Marketplace Promotion Engineering team builds the backend capabilities behind Shopee’s promotion tools and mechanisms. Its work powers features such as vouchers, flash sales, bundle deals, and similar commerce promotions that help shoppers get discounts, increase platform traffic, and improve order volume for sellers.
Shopee gives priority to candidates who already have the legal right to work in Singapore and do not need visa sponsorship.
Role Overview
This role focuses on building and supporting backend systems that enable marketplace promotion experiences at scale. You will work closely with product and engineering partners to shape technical decisions, implement solutions, and resolve issues affecting functionality and performance.
Responsibilities
- Build, improve, and support backend services that power promotion features.
- Work with the product team to share technical input and help guide product choices.
- Take part in architecture and technical design discussions, then help turn designs into working solutions.
- Implement agreed technical designs into production-ready code.
- Investigate and fix issues tied to business rules, system behavior, or performance.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Working knowledge of at least one backend language such as Java, Python, Golang, or C++.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability, with a willingness to take on difficult challenges.
- High ownership, solid communication, teamwork mindset, and the ability to work independently under pressure.
- Strong interest in coding, programming, innovation, and solving complex technical problems.
- Good understanding of core computer science concepts, including data structures and algorithms, operating systems, networks, and databases.
Preferred Qualifications
- Practical experience using Golang.
- Comfort working in Linux environments.
- Experience with relational databases such as MySQL.
- Exposure to tuning and optimizing systems that handle high traffic or heavy load.
