Associate Art Director

Role Overview

Los Angeles Magazine, part of Engine Vision Media, is looking for an experienced and reliable Associate Art Director to join its creative team. This position calls for a designer who is highly proficient in InDesign, has strong editorial layout and typography skills, and can work confidently with photography. The role blends creativity with precision, requiring someone who can balance several active tasks, keep track of details, and consistently deliver work on time.

The role supports the Los Angeles and Pasadena magazine titles, along with custom publishing assignments. It follows a hybrid work setup.

What You’ll Do

• Build and refine editorial pages using InDesign, including style sheets and production-ready layouts.
• Research, review, and select images with care and efficiency.
• Carry out basic photo retouching and image improvements in Photoshop.
• Maintain and structure visual assets and file organization, while coordinating with outside contributors as needed.
• Prepare and adapt visual materials for digital publishing on lamag.com.
• Develop vector-based artwork in Illustrator.
• Work with the art director to establish interim checkpoints and keep projects moving.
• Partner with different teams to produce visually consistent and engaging design output.
• Design social media carousels for print stories.

What We’re Looking For

• Advanced InDesign ability, plus solid working knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator.
• A strong understanding of page structure, typography, and editorial photography.
• Prior experience in magazine or editorial design is preferred.
• Excellent organization, strong attention to detail, and a resourceful approach to problem-solving.
• Someone who takes initiative, works with commitment, and follows projects through to completion.
• Clear communication skills and a proactive mindset.
• Genuine interest in iterative design and visual storytelling.
• Comfort with deadline-driven work, including occasional weekend availability.
