Role overview
This is a one-year full-time contract position for an Assistant Accountant based in Sydney (Parramatta). Only candidates who already have the right to work in Australia and hold a valid visa will be considered.
Key responsibilities
- Create and issue customer invoices accurately in line with sales orders and contractual terms.
- Monitor incoming payments, apply receipts from cheques, cards, and electronic transfers, and reconcile receivables against the ledger.
- Follow up on overdue accounts, support collections activity, and help reduce outstanding balances.
- Handle customer queries about invoices and account balances, and work to resolve billing issues quickly.
- Prepare receivables reports for management, including ageing analysis and collection performance metrics.
- Coordinate with sales and customer service teams to keep billing accurate and maintain positive client relationships.
Experience and requirements
- A qualification as an accounting graduate is required.
- At least 1 year of experience in BPO or shared services within accounts receivable is essential.
- Prior exposure to debt collection work is also mandatory.
- Applicants must meet Australian work eligibility requirements and hold a valid visa.
Skills and tools
- Strong accuracy and numerical attention to detail
- Ability to organise multiple accounts and prioritise tasks
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- Confidence using accounting systems and spreadsheets
- Practical experience with Microsoft Office
- Hands-on experience with SAP in an accounting environment, especially AP/AR
