Overview
Unilever is seeking a Territory Manager for Asaba, Nigeria, within the Customer Development function. This role reports to the Area Sales Manager for the Warri Area and is focused on local market execution. It is a full-time, permanent position based in Asaba.
Role purpose
The Territory Manager will be accountable for improving secondary sales by ensuring Unilever products are available, visible, and well represented for consumers across the assigned territory. The position involves managing distributors and their sales teams, while also overseeing the execution of trade programs and merchandising plans across all relevant channels.
Key responsibilities
- Broaden outlet coverage to include all practical and profitable stores in line with territory planning.
- Work toward coverage levels that are as close to complete as possible.
- Continuously identify and pursue newly opened stores within the territory.
- Strengthen controlled coverage through Sub-D and mainstream channels.
- Use handheld tools and systems to complete store-level tasks accurately.
- Ensure merchandising activities are carried out properly by the merchandiser with support from the DSR.
- Increase the number of fully compliant, high-performing stores under your control.
- Make sure orders are delivered completely and on schedule.
- Improve the quality of suggested sell-in quantities and the right product mix for in-store expansion.
- Ensure appropriate visit frequency and use category-level or common DSRs to secure orders.
- Handle KD and customer complaints promptly and effectively.
- Deliver full achievement of KPIs across the assigned territory and relevant channels.
- Optimize trade term spend (TTS).
- Build the distribution network by pushing core assortment, distribution drives, new launches, promotion packs, and shelf availability for priority SKUs.
- Support launch and relaunch activities by expanding numeric and weighted distribution, improving shelf presence, and increasing share of shelf.
- Help drive the success of channel programs and ensure the intended business outcomes are met.
- Recommend territory-specific channel initiatives to area, regional, and channel managers.
- Implement perfect store programs to win at the point of sale.
- Support in-store objectives while coaching and accompanying DSRs.
- Act as the face of Unilever in the market for trade servicing and handle retailer issues and grievances with care and urgency.
- Maintain regular coverage of all stores according to the beat plan.
- Ensure stocks are delivered to stores on time.
- Track and include new stores entering the market.
- Maintain satisfactory secondary CCFOT levels.
- Ensure trade claims are settled on time.
- Monitor product quality on shelves and at KDs.
- Keep a close watch on competitor activity and market intelligence.
Experience and qualifications
The role calls for 2 to 4 years of experience in sales, along with strong analytical ability and comfort with digital tools.
