Role overview
Corlann, West Region is hiring a permanent full-time Support Worker for night duty at Clarin Adult Services in Clarinbridge, County Galway. This is a care assistant grade post in a person-centred, community-based disability service.
The organisation supports children and adults with intellectual disabilities, with a strong focus on independence, everyday community participation, family connection and living a valued life of choice. The service works across day, residential, respite, outreach, family support and multidisciplinary settings.
A panel may be created from this recruitment process. It may be used to fill current and future permanent, specified-purpose, full-time or part-time vacancies. Locum Support Worker opportunities may also arise.
About the service
Clarin Adult Services delivers support in day centres, supported employment, social and micro-enterprises, training and education, and in residential settings, either in people’s own homes or within community-based group arrangements. The service aims to help people build friendships, take part in ordinary community life and take on meaningful social roles.
The team is seeking motivated, adaptable and creative people who can work flexibly to meet the needs of each person supported and who are comfortable with change.
Key duties
The Support Worker will assist people in all areas of daily living, always building on individual strengths and encouraging independence and skill development.
The role includes supporting people to achieve personal outcomes and to take part in everyday community life through inclusive, creative approaches.
Personal care is a core part of the post and may include help with meals, household responsibilities, intimate care and other tasks linked to physical wellbeing.
The successful applicant will report, depending on the location, to a Social Care Worker, Staff Nurse, Team Leader or Team Manager.
Working pattern and location
Staff may be placed in residential, respite, day or community services. The initial assignment will be in one area of Clarin services, but the work location can change later based on service requirements.
The full-time post is 78 hours per fortnight. The position works on a 14-day roster and may involve weekend work, split shifts, public holidays, evening and night duty, and sleep-in duties to meet service needs.
The service uses a Personal Outcome Measures quality framework and person-centred planning, so staff must be willing to adjust working hours as required to deliver quality support.
Pay and employment terms
The role is permanent, full-time and pensionable. It is specifically a night duty post.
Pay follows Department of Health scales in effect from 01/06/2026. The salary range is €34,881 to €47,624 per year, with 11 increments. A long-service increment of €48,434 per year applies after three years at the top of the scale.
Additional pay is available for weekends, public holidays, sleep-ins and night duty when worked. The quoted salary is based on a 39-hour working week. Incremental credit may be granted if previous public sector service is satisfactorily verified.
Annual leave is 22 days per year, pro-rated for part-time staff, equivalent to 8.46 hours per 100 hours worked.
A probation period of nine months applies from the start date. Employment may end during probation if the employer considers the appointee unsuitable to continue. The probation period may also be extended at the employer’s discretion.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants should have a good general education. A recognised qualification in intellectual disability, a FETAC Level 5 course, or QQI Level 5 or above is desirable and considered an advantage.
Experience supporting people with intellectual disability, autism or complex needs is preferred, although induction and training will be provided.
A full, clean manual driving licence valid for manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads is essential. The successful candidate may also need to obtain a Class D1 driving licence if they do not already hold one, and support will be provided to help with that process.
Fluency in spoken and written English is essential, along with competent IT skills.
Strong teamwork, patience, flexibility and a good sense of humour are also important.
