Position Summary
Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies operates on the downtown Orlando campus and has been serving women and newborns since 2006. The hospital offers a wide range of services, from gynecology and minimally invasive procedures to obstetrics, high-risk pregnancy care, and delivery. It is recognized for nursing excellence, has Joint Commission perinatal care certification, welcomes nearly 14,000 babies annually, and includes 350 beds with 142 neonatal intensive care beds. Along with its sister hospital for children, it has earned national recognition for specialized neonatal care and has appeared on major hospital ranking lists.
The Hospital Retail Food and Nutrition team is looking for a Scheduling Coordinator to manage communication with physicians and, when needed, patients, ancillary departments, and surgical areas. The role focuses on arranging, changing, and cancelling single or multiple tests and procedures with accuracy and professionalism. This is a full-time day shift position.
Responsibilities
- Share clear, procedure-specific scheduling instructions so patients know how to prepare, where to arrive, and when to come in.
- Approach every customer interaction with attentiveness, empathy, and a willingness to suggest alternatives when needed.
- Maintain strong phone manners, a collaborative attitude, and professional communication at all times.
- Support Orlando Health’s patient-first service standards and commitment to excellent care.
- Use registration and scheduling systems, along with web-based tools, with confidence.
- Work comfortably with computers, multi-line phones, printers, copiers, fax machines, and related data-entry tasks.
- Keep a basic understanding of medical considerations that affect appointment screening.
- Review schedules daily and ensure all updates are communicated to the right staff members.
- Consistently meet productivity, quality, and customer service targets set by the department.
- Use working knowledge of ICD-9/ICD-10 and CPT coding as needed.
- Recognize service concerns and either resolve them or escalate them for follow-up.
- Follow Orlando Health’s professional appearance standards at all times.
- Maintain dependable, punctual attendance in line with organizational and legal requirements.
- Comply with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Stay in regular contact with practices about scheduling matters when necessary.
- Participate in department meetings, in-service sessions, and process improvement efforts.
- Take responsibility for ongoing professional growth and development.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of the Orlando Health medical terminology course within 90 days of hire.
- No licensure or certification required.
- At least 1 year of experience in retail, customer service, or a healthcare setting.
- Prior computer experience is required.
