Role overview
This position is for an Operational Support Grade at HMP Erlestoke, where you will help keep a busy prison operating safely and efficiently. The job is part of the broader work of His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service and combines security-focused duties with practical support across the site.
What the role involves
You will be part of a team responsible for the smooth day-to-day running of the prison. The work is varied and active, covering gate security and searches, handling deliveries, supervising visitors, and observing phone calls and CCTV. The role includes both desk-based tasks and more physical activity such as lifting, carrying, and walking escorts to vehicles across the prison grounds.

Pay and benefits
The annual salary for this role is £30,491. In addition to base pay, the package includes 25 days of annual leave on joining, rising to 30 days after 10 years of service on a pro-rata basis, plus 9 days of bank, public, and privilege holidays. Other benefits include access to a paid Level 2 apprenticeship in customer service, the Civil Service pension scheme, season ticket loans, retail discounts, an Employee Assistance Programme, and a Cycle to Work scheme.
